Breast ptosis is the slippage and collapse of the gland which leads to an exaggerated distension of the skin envelope. The breasts then hang low, and the upper parts are “emptied out”. Ptosis may exist from the start or occur after significant weight loss, though it usually happens after pregnancy. Ptosis may be isolated or linked with hypoplasia or hypertrophy, which will also be corrected in the same operation.

Surgery Animation

The procedure puts the sagging breast and areola back in place, fix the gland in the right position and remove any excess skin. The procedure can be performed from the age of seventeen if the condition is severe, though it is commonly advised that one waits till they are sure that they won’t get pregnant again.

A breast lift rejuvenates the figure and makes it appear more youthful. While breast ptosis also reduces the size of the areola it does not change the size, volume and shape of the breasts, nor does it completely fill out the upper part of the breasts. However, if these changes are desired, then they can be achieved by inserting a breast implant behind the large pectoral muscle.

The procedure leaves scars, the length of those depends on the degree of hypertrophy and ptosis. The scar is usually in the form of an inverted “T”, “L” or “I”. Of course, plastic surgeons try their best to minimize scarring as much as possible and monitor the patient after the operation to make sure that the scars are healing properly. Once the breasts take on a symmetrical curve the scars with being subjected to personalized care. Dermopigmentation allows the visible scars to be reduced, particularly around the areola. The outcome of the procedure is better if the mark is self-effacing. If the essence of the patient’s tissue is suitable and the care regime is properly followed. The procedure itself only takes about two hours and is carried out under general anesthesia. The breast remains natural, is sensitive to hormonal changes and breastfeeding remains possible.
