Surgery to change the shape of the bridge of the nose is called rhinoplasty. It allows straightening of the bridge and removing any bumps, to refine the base of the nose, narrow the tip of the nose and to improve it aesthetically. An associated deviated in the nasal septum can also be treated. It is also possible to increase the size of a nose through cartilage graft to result in a well-balanced nasal projection.

It is necessary to analyze the discomfort caused by the nasal pyramid and how the appearance affects the person’s emotional and social wellbeing before undertaking the procedure.

The nasal morphology and the quality of the tissue (skin and cartilage) are analyzed to decide on which surgical option to choose. The preferred shape of the nose must be studied about the face so that they are proportional to each other in a harmonious way. One stereotypical nose does not suit every face so a natural outcome must be reached to balance the face comfortably. It is all about personalization and individuality to improve one’s looks.

Surgery Animation

There are two types of procedures known as the open and the closed approaches. In the closed approach, the incisions are made inside the nose whereas in the open approach the incision is made on the columella (the structure that separates the nostrils). This gives a wider outlook on all the elements of the nose as it allows for more precise adjustments and hence produces more natural outcomes. A direct view of all the various bones and cartilages of the nose allows for harmonious remodeling of them in perfect proportions.

Cartilage or bone can be removed to reduce the size of the nose, a cartilage graft from the nasal passage is used to define the nose more precisely. The procedure is done under general anesthesia and has the duration of one and a half hours with another 24 hours of hospitalization. After the operation, plaster is placed for eight days. The procedure itself isn’t painful, but it is slightly unpleasant to breathe through the mouth during hospitalization. Postoperative swelling doesn’t last more than a week and after two weeks the patient can resume normal social activities again. The tissue looks entirely natural, and the proper, final look can be seen towards the end of the second or third month.

Most patients are satisfied with their results because they have prepared themselves for it beforehand. They are guided both psychologically, and technically, the more experienced the surgeon is, the better he can prepare his patients. It is very rare but sometimes medical rhinoplasty is carried out by injecting hyaluronic acid to mask a small lump or mitigate an unattractive irregularity. It is a simple yet effective procedure which is performed with a ‘re absorbable product.

Who Is It For?

The nose is the most prominent feature of the face and rhinoplasty can improve the overall face expression and an appearance by changing the nose shape, size, width or proportions. This operation not only helps clients feel more comfortable and self-confident but also makes breathing easier. There is a very detailed pre-operative consultation to discuss the motivation and expectations of the surgery with the client. Every case is considered individually; attention is paid to the general face features, the size, and shape of the nose and bone, etc. The operation is meant to improve the look of the client not completely change their face. The proximate limit is the age of eighteen as the nose bone growth needs to have finished before it can be reshaped.

How Is It Done?

The surgery does not leave any visible scars as it is performed through the nostrils. The soft parts, cartilage, and bones and loosened and then reshaped. If the bone structure reshaping is not necessary, only the soft parts can be remodeled.

Nose surgery takes between one and two hours, and it is usually performed under general anesthesia, or by client’s request under local anesthesia.

After Surgery

Nasal tampons are inserted in the nostrils and are taken out about three to five days after the operation. A splint is worn for two weeks or more only at night to fixate and protect the nose. The patient is taught how to apply pressure massages at the clinic after the splint is removed. For six to eight weeks the patient has to avoid contact sports, sun exposure, extreme temperatures, and sauna. It is important to rest, ideally on the back with the legs and body slightly elevated, until the bandages are removed. Sudden movements and bending forward should also be avoided as the increased blood pressure could cause the rupturing of a vessel and bleeding. This will reduce the chances of post-operative complications such as bleeding, hematomas or swelling, although they may still appear, even in the eyelid area. Ice compressors and prescribed medication help to reduce swelling. The nose should be cleaned carefully and only with soft pads not by blowing

Possible Reactions

In some cases, your temperature may slightly rise for a two to three days. An analgesic can easily ease the discomfort connected to any possible pain in the area operated upon. A new nose looks better in 2-3 weeks and usually continues to improve for many months, and the nasal tip drops to its permanent position in 3-6 months. However, the final results may not be apparent for a year or more.

Possible Complications

Post-operative bleeding, or bleeding caused by insufficient post-operative care at home
Swelling, Prolonged healing, Haematomas, Infection of the wound
Imperfect effect resulting from non-observance of the post-operative instructions

Back To Normal

Following uneventful recovery, it is usually possible to return to work and resume usual activities (excluding exercise) two weeks of the operation. Regular physical activity, including exercise, can be returned after two months.

The final result can be expected around six to twelve months after the operation. The resulting effect is permanent.

A nose job is always planned personally according to the client’s needs – some might only need the soft parts remodeling, others might need bone reconstruction or a hump correction, and there are also individual cases of posttraumatic states.
